The Trident Program Marine Safety Watchstander (AUX-MSW) |
|||||||||
|
Note: Per ALCOAST 045/10 Effective 28 APR 2010 this Qualification will be CANCELLED. Auxiliarists who hold a valid Letter of Designation (LOD) signed by a unit commander will still be able to apply this qualification to meeting the requirements for the award of the Auxiliary Trident Device.
Upon successful completion of this
personal qualification, a person will hold the minimum competencies necessary to
complete a Marine Safety Watch. The Marine Safety Watchstander is intended to be
a conduit for receiving, passing, and recording information. He/she is expected
to be able to follow directions and to conduct activities described in the unit
Quick Response Sheets (QRS). If a situation arises that is not covered in the
QRS, or if the watchstander fails to obtain voluntary compliance with the
requirements described in the QRS, he/she is expected to contact a watch
supervisor/Command Duty Officer for direction.
Auxiliarists do not
have law enforcement authority. They cannot independently
exercise COTP, OCMI, or FOSC authority and may become
personally liable for actions they take outside of
prescribed directives. Do not allow an Auxiliary
Watchstander to be placed in a position that will compromise
the limitations on the member’s authority.
This link will
download the Personal Qualification Standard Workbook for
this specialty. This is the Official record of your
specialty training so you will want to protect it, and keep
it legible. It will contain the record of your
training, and be submitted to the Commanding Officer of your
assigned Active Duty Unit for submission and signature when
completed. Many Auxiliarists optionally print it at a
commercial document processor, like Kinko's, Office Max,
Office Depot, Staples, etc. and have it assembled with a
spiral binding to ensure it is legible and in good shape,
although this is not mandatory.
Note:
This is one of the specialties that
MAY require a
Satisfactory PSI for a Direct Operations (DO) Clearance
before you can start this specialty, or perform many tasks.
You should check with the local unit you are supporting to
determine if a DO clearance will be required. Before
starting this PQS check with your local MS Staff officers to
see if it should be initiated, and if a DO is required prior
to starting this PQS. It may take 6 months or more to
complete and gain the clearance.
