The MSAM is an Auxiliary only
qualification. Auxiliarists must work with a verifying officer to
complete each task. A verifying officer is someone who holds a Letter
of Desigation for the qualification issued by the DC-M or DC-Md.
Many people will tell you to take the on-line test for this
qualification. There used to be an on-line test, but it did not
meet the requirements for this specialty, and has been removed from the
program.
In order to
complete this specialty, you
will need to find an Auxiliarist who is a qualifying officer, most
likely it is in your Marine Safety Staff Officer Ranks. Once
completed, the packet is sent to the DSO-MS for verification. Once
the DSO is satisfied that all tasks have been completed, they will
forward a request to the Regional Director of the Auxiliary who will
issue the Letter of Designation.

The Study guide is somewhat out of
date, as it was written before much of the modernization has
taken place. Still it has some useful information so
it is included. If some kind soul were to update the
copy it would be greatly appreciated and send it to the
webmaster (link to left).
Many
Auxiliarists optionally print it at a commercial document
processor, like Kinko's, Office Max, Office Depot, Staples,
etc. and have it assembled with a spiral binding to ensure
it is legible and in good shape, although this is not
mandatory. |
